Mr Neil Clark – 3rd Dan
I began training in Taekwon-Do at the age of 16 having spent the previous 7 years like many boys & teenagers playing non-stop football. At this time I was looking for a new challenge where I could shine as individually, and decided that I would try a martial art, having always had a fascination by things I had seen in films and demonstrations.
Wanting to avoid following the perceived trend, I steered clear of Karate, & opted to try Taekwon-Do, which I heard a few good things about but at that time was not as well known or popular as today.
I began training with firstly in a small class with Mr. Jason Bertrand, followed by one of Mr. Roy Bertrand’s adult classes. Then as now I found the classes to be very friendly, welcoming & enjoyable. Although younger than all the other students at the time, I never felt as though I was being looked down upon or judged, a common fear that many people often say puts them off trying out martial arts.
After only a short while, I was hooked on Taekwon-Do. Ten years down the line I have been in a unique position to witness Focus Taekwon-Do grow, change & adapt to a school that caters for all ages & abilities. I have been to university and come back to continue my training with Focus Taekwon-Do. Under Mr. Bertrand’s teaching & guidance, I have gained not only techniques & skills with which to defend myself, but a confidence & moral framework that has shaped my life & continues to guide me in all aspects of my life.
