ABOUT US : BLACK BELTS : MR S. WEST - BLACK BELT (Assistant Instructor)
Mr Scott West: 1st Dan

Well where do I start? I’m a black belt (1st degree) and I’ve been doing Tae Kwon Do at Focus TKD for about 7 years!

My first interest in Tae Kwon Do Started when my instructor Mr. Bertrand 6th Degree came into school one day, he began with the usual rant as most visitors do trying to sell their thing, but he somehow managed to attract my attention. It was new, something different. I was always fond of martial arts and the kung-fu films, but none of the martial arts I had previously seen stood up to TKD. From then on I was keen to find out more and give it a go and been hooked ever since.

In Tae Kwon Do I have had the opportunity to compete, even in the national competitions. In all my events I have come away with something; medals, an experience, support from the school and my instructor. I have actually enjoyed TKD throughout these 7 years and I’m not just saying this, its all thanks to the welcoming friendly attitudes at Focus, especially from Mr. Bertrand who has always been very supportive and understanding.

I’ve done lots of other sporting and physical activities, but I found Tae Kwon Do has brought me the most fun and enjoyment. Not only is it enjoyable but it offers a challenge and instils great discipline, which can be especially useful at a young age. I was 10 when I was first introduced to Tae Kwon Do, and like many other young boys I was oblivious to the consequences of my actions, as I was actually bit of a terror during my junior school. Tae Kwon Do taught me ‘self discipline’, it has also helped me to focus on whatever I was involved in such as my school work.

As a 1st Degree Black Belt I have been able to assist my instructor and share my knowledge and experience with more junior students.  My journey continues and I look forward to the challenge ahead.
